ASTRID WILLIAMSON INTERVIEW

Astrid Williamson Interview

CRITICALLY acclaimed artist Astrid Williamson has fulfilled her childhood dream of having a career as a musician. Her latest album Day of the Lone Wolf released on her own label, Incarnation, is arguably her best yet.

Astrid explains: “If it turns out to be the last album I ever record, I will not regret anything about it.”

Speaking at the SMHTP studios the songstress shares stories about growing up in the Shetlands and how her original musical influences quite surprisingly fell under the category of heavy metal. Quite a change it seems to her now soft sounding tone that the she has become so well known for.

During her time studying for a degree at the Royal Scottish Academy in Glasgow, Astrid set up the band Goya Dress - however due to disappointing sales the band split up.

Nevertheless big things were destined for Astrid, and this was never more apparent during her time of hardship.

She explains: “After the crash, when my deal with Nude ended, everything fell apart and I didn’t know where I was going. There was lots of staring at the sea until I got my confidence back.”

When Williamson regained her confidence she began to rebuild her career, however this time she did things quite differently. Creative freedom was an absolute priority and so she decided to launch her own label Incarnation, shortly after she released her second album. Her long awaited popularity arrived; the album gathered a string of glorious reviews including a whopping four star Q review.

In a candid interview with SMHTP Astrid offers us all some invaluable advice, “Don’t waste your energy on negative stuff, if it’s bad just let it go focus on what you can control – and just let the other bad stuff go.”
