Hi Rachel
Sorry to hear you are struggling to play, Relax more, sounds like you might be quite tense whilst you play.
It takes some effort to get the strings onto the fretboard, but not excessive amounts of pressure, we need to be fluent & graceful above all.
I like to use flatwound strings because they are so smooth & great with a pick.
Drop me a line if you wish I'm at www.myspace.com/garyholder or PM me on this site
Best wishes

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the helpful tips, it is always good to hear what other people do and what they use, so I will try and relax. I am certainly not fluent and graceful yet!! |

Hi Rachel
Please keep posting on here with your progress. Pick up the bass every day, relax & work on getting a good sound.
I find building exersises using fingers 1 & 4 on the fret board puts the fretting hand in a good position with the thumb resting at the back of the neck.
Best wishes
